Thomas Gassaway and his family lived in the older section of London that was known as London Town during the 1600's. They were patrons of St. Margaret's Church Westminister that stands today adjacent to Westminister Abbey. Contemporary with Thomas Gassaway was a Richard Gassaway whose daughters Elizabeth and Jane were christened 6 August 1635 and in the year 1638, respectively, in St. Margaret's. [2]

Thomas was married twice, as three of his children, Mary, Joyce and Thomas, were christened prior to his marriage in 1631 to Anne Collingwood.[2]
