Alexander Sr. was living at Jackson County, Illinois from 1811 to 1815 according to Historical Sketches of Jackson County, Illinois.
"...in the year 1811 there came to settle on Green's Creek at Big Hill, Alexander Gaston, and his son, also named Alexander. The old man brought slaves with him, and sole some of these to William Boon. In 1815 or 1816 Mr. Gaston's house caught fire, and he perished in the flames of his own dwelling."[1]
Alexander Sr. from Kentucky, settled upon the John McFarland place in 1815. He was succeeded by his son, Alexander, who lived and died upon the same place.[2]

"In 1815, Alexander Gaston settled on the fam afterward owned by John McFarland. His son, alexander Gaston lived on the same place till the time of his death. He was drowned in the Mary's river with a negro boy tied to his back, while trying to swim the stream."[4]
Alexander died after his marriage to Sarah McKnight in 1817.
