Biography
A soldier with the Royal Artillery who settled in Dartmouth and took up farming. "George Ritchie Sr. born Aberdeen early 1800's. Officer in Royal Artillery. Sent to Canada by British Govt. Married Martha Gaston 1841. Three sons, John, Samuel, Robert. After the death of Martha, George married Almira Lynch 5 sons, 5 daughters."[1]
Burial
- On one side, her tombstone reads, "In memory of Thomas Ritchie. His wives Martha & Mary A. Brother Robert Ritchie"[2]
- The Find a Grave memorial notes that he was born on Mar. 8, 1812, Scotland; and died Dec. 28, 1888, Dartmouth, Halifax.
- Another side reads: "Robert / Annie / Samuel / Children of / T. & M. Ritchie", and another reads "Elizabeth / Fannie / T. & M. A. Ritchie"[3]
