Thanks for maintaining this profile but Hillmorton registers only go back to 1564 and there's no real sourcing on it. Any reason to suspect he is actually the father of Michael Gater? Or that he actually existed? Not trying to be rude, but let's disconnect him from Michael at the least, who is actually documented in Hillmorton. Thanks!
News flash, found proof of "A" John Gater in Hillmorton. His daughter Elizabeth was buried February 1604/05 in Hillmorton, looks like the 12th but can't be 100% sure. Since she was listed as "daughter of" that puts her at under 21 so if you want to look at baptismal records in the same register within the prior 21 years, shouldn't take too long. It's a short register and that might be this guy, you might even find his marriage Here's the link to where Elizabeth was buried https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6W23-W1Q?i=26&owc=Q6MC-S7Z%3A42645501%2C1583867503%3Fcc%3D1462403&cc=1462403
Actually that would most likely be a daughter of John (b. 1579) son of Michael, but still possible it was a daughter of an older John from a second (or more) wife.
