Biography
William Ward Gates is the son of William Gates born 1760 in Chesterfield county, Virginia. William's father served in the military, during the American Revolutionary War and is honored by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A043588. Numerous applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of William Ward Gates and his wife, "Polly" Cheatham. [1]
On May 13, 1802 William married Mary "Polly" Cheatham. [2]
