BOAT HARBOR.
The late Mr Henry Gates, whose death was reported in the Times last week, was born in England in 1821. Emigrating to Tasmania he landed at Launceston with his wife and two sons in 1853.
Shortly afierwards he came to the North West Coast as pioneer. Unfortunately he suffered from an affection of the eyes which caused total blindness to eventuate. His wife died in 1872, leaving him with his youngest daughter aged 15 to keep house, and his youngest son then about 6 years to look after. Deceased had been in failing health for the past two or three years, and latterly his debility increased and he died somewhat suddenly on August 20 at the age of 79. He left a grown-up family.
