Jonathan Gates was born at Bolton, Massachusetts, 8 Jun 1746, the son of Stephen Gates and Damaris Howe; ^{[1] [2]} died at Hubbardston, Massachusetts, 30 Sep 1808, aged 62y 4m, ^[3] and is buried there in the Parish Cemetery; ^[4] married at Rutland, Massachusetts, 27 Feb 1770 ^{[5] [1]} (intentions at Rutland, 10 Feb 1770), ^[6] Hephzibah Stone, born at Rutland, 3 Apr 1747, the daughter of John Stone and Elizabeth Hill; ^[7] died at Hubbardston, 25 Dec 1818, aged 71y 8m 11d, ^[3] and is buried with her husband in the Parish Cemetery. ^[8]
