Daniel Gates was born May 4, 1680, married Rebecca Dutton, born August 13, 1686, daughter of Joseph Dutton and his wife, Rebecca Merriam. Rebecca was admitted to full communion in the First Church of East Haddam, June 29, 1712. Daniel Gates was the first member and one of the first Deacons of the Second Congregational Church and Ecclesiastical Society in Millington, East Haddam (hereinafter Millington Church) and was frequently elected to office in the town.
He was a selectman in 1729 and 1739 and a leather sealer in 1740. Rebecca died in 1749 in East Haddam and Daniel died there, November 24, 1761, aged eighty-one years.

Joseph, born September 7, 1716, baptized October 21, 1716, died, August 1, 1741, buried in Old Cove Burial Ground.
Mary, born March 29, 1719, baptized May 3, 1719, admitted to full communion at the First Church, July 16, 1738, married, December 24, 1740, Hezekiah Scovil, born about 1714 at Lyme, New London County, CT. Hezekiah died, July 20, 1753, and Mary married, second, ______ DICKINSON.
Ruth, born August 10, 1721, baptized September 3, 1721, admitted to full communion at the First Church, July 16, 1738, married, April 25, 1745, Isaac Ackley. Their descendants still live on the same farm in East Haddam today. Ruth died in East Haddam, December 25, 1789, and Isaac Ackley married, second, Mrs. Abigail Brainerd.
Ephraim, born August 18, 1724, baptized September 13, 1724, died, July 22, 1741, buried in Cove Burial Ground.
Judah, born August 2, 1727.
