Biography

Biddy Gates is a part of US Black heritage.

Biddy was born about 1850 most likely Georgia. She is the daughter of Draper Gates and Hannah Gates. Both parents were enslaved. Biddy also was enslaved and was first owned by Benjamin A Gates. The first mention of her was in the will of Benjamin Alexander Gates, 1853, Meriwether County, Georgia. She was to be inherited either by Benjamin K Gates or Samuel M Gates. She was one of the families that were kept together. The other members are Draper Gates, Hannah Y Gates, Nathan Gates, Manerva Gates , Frances Gates, Biddy Gates, Jepe Gates, Phoebe Gates.
