Lucy was born during the time that primary records prove her parents were living in Amherst County, VA. She was apparently educated as she signed her name in several documents over the course of her life.
Her marriage is recorded in Bedford County, VA marriage books which names her father[1].
She is mentioned in the will[2] and estate settlement[3] of her brother, Charles Scott Gatewood in Woodford County, KY.
Beginning in 1823[4], she is listed in tax lists in Jessamine County, KY. She was taxed for two slaves and four horses in that year. Her husband, Meredith Wright, refused to list his land in the 1822 tax list of Jessamine County, KY which was his last known appearance in primary records. He may have died or become incapable of managing his affairs, though there is no mention of that in court order books.
She last appears in records in the 1835 tax list[5] of Jessamine County, KY. The 1836 tax list is missing. She was taxed for 64 acres of land on Clear Creek, one slave and one horse.
Her last appearance in primary records was on 27 November 1837 when she gave permission for the marriage of her daughter, Jenetta, to James Trotter in Jessamine County. She made her mark, so may have been unable to sign her name, then.
