Lazarus Gatlin Sr is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A096362.
Lazarus was born in Craven County, North Carolina.[1] According to DAR records, he was born circa 1747.[2]
When he sold land in Craven County, North Carolina to John Ipock in 1773, he was married to Elizabeth.[3]
On 25 July 1774, he was issued a land patent for 86 acres of land on the north side of Swifts Creek in Craven County, North Carolina.[4]
In 1780, he paid provision taxes on Indian corn in Capt. Henry Taylor's District, Dobbs County, North Carolina.[5]
He served in the American Revolution, in the Newbern District, North Carolina.[6][7]
In 1790, he was still living in Dobbs County, North Carolina.[8]
He married Alice Vendrick on 18 April 1793 in Craven County, North Carolina.[9]
On 10 March 1804, he was received into Mill Creek Baptist Church in Davidson County, Tennessee by recantation.[10] He and his wife were excommunicated on 31 March 1804.[11]
The 25 April 1804 issue of the Tennessee Gazette contained a notice from Lazarus Gatlin, dated 17 March 1804, which stated that his wife Sarah Gatlin had left his bed and board and that he would not be liable for her debts.[12]
Lazarus' will was proven during the July 1808 sessions of the Davidson County, Tennessee probate court. He left his "loving wife" (her name was not given) table furniture, and stated that she was to live on the land, and that his land was to be equally divided between his sons Nathan and Lazarus. He left his son-in-law B. Castleman his horse mill. The rest of his estate was to be divided between his children Charity, Jesse, Nancy, William, Edmund, and Thomas.[13]
