Pierre 'the younger' Gaudet and Pierre 'the elder' Gaudet are both listed on the 1671 Census. They were brothers and both married women named Blanchard. Each had a son named Jean or Jean Baptiste. Anne born about 1645 married the elder Pierre and Marie born about 1656, married the younger Pierre.
There is confusion about which Pierre Gaudet died in 1741. There is a record which states a Pierre Gaudet died on 8 Dec. 1741, age 89 which would give a birth year of about 1652, consistent with the older brother, however their birth dates are only about 2 years apart and age at death in a record is very unreliable. Stephen White assigns this date to the younger Pierre.

Biography

Pierre (Lejeune) Gaudet, son of Denis Gaudet and Martine Gauthier, was born about 1654 in Port-Royal. He married about 1675 in Port Royal to Marie Blanchard, daughter of Jean Blanchard and Radegonde Lambert.[1]

He is found living with his parents at age 17 in Port Royal in 1671: at Port Royal: Denis Gaudet, 46, wife, Martine Gauthier 62; Children (the first 2 married): Anne 25, Marie 21, Pierre 20, Pierre 17, Marie 14; cattle 9, sheep 13.[2]

Just a few years later, he is married and living with his wife and two sons, age 3 and 5 months[3], giving him a marriage date of about 1675[1]. Over 22 years they had 10 children:[1]

  1. Pierre-Will Gaudet b1676 m Madeleine Pellerin
  2. Antoine Gaudet b 1678 m Marie Louise Bourg
  3. Germain b1680
  4. Guillaume Gaudet b1683 m Marie Boudrot
  5. Denis b1685 m Anne Doucet
  6. Marguerite Gaudet b1688 m Bernard Pellerin
  7. Jean-Dit-Varouel Gaudet b1690 m Madeleine Brun
  8. Bernard Gaudet b1691 m Marguerite Pellerin, Marie Doucet
  9. Marie Gaudet b1694 m Jean-Baptiste Prejean
  10. Jeanne Gaudet b1698 m Alexandre Pellerin

The family had expanded to 5 boys by 1686[4]. Ten years later the family was almost complete when Marie was pregnant with their last child in 1698[5] as the last baby is now present in 1700.[6]

His land holdings became significant, with 12 arpents and quite a few animals in 1707[7]. He was only one of two grown Godets in Port Royal by 1714[8], his older brother and several others were living in Beaubassin by then.

He died having received the sacraments on December 8, 1741 and was buried at Beaubassin, Acadie [9][1]

The two brothers named Pierre Gaudet have been given the same death date. I don't know how to decide which one died in 1741. I have marked them both uncertain. Can anyone provide more information about this?

Gaudet-1404 and Gaudet-11 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, same birth year and place. Same death date.

On the gedcom I received, the source for burial is "Acadian Parish Remembered: The Registers of St Jean-Baptiste, Annapolis Royal, 1702-1755, An," RG 1, vol. 26a, p. 212.

For Pierre l'aine Gaudet the source for death is Milton P. and Norma Gaudet Rieder, Acadian Church Records, vol. II (Metairie, LA: Authors, 1976), p. 18. Covers year 1712-1748. Also available as microfiche #608764 9. Includes transcripts of Beaubassin, Acadia church registers, now at the Archives of the Mayor of La Rochelle, Charente Maritime, France.

On this website: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?opGET&dbkatheriot&id=I966, the death note is: !DEATH: after 1714 census of Beaubassin.

On this website http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?opGET&dbkatheriot&id=I1083 this is noted for Pierre le jeune

The geneaologist who ran my gedcom is the same one doing work for rootsweb, but the information may vary as, like WikiTree, it is a work in progress. I have found very few discrepancies so far. I'm sure she will like for us to let her know if we find the death dates have been reversed for these two brothers.

His brother, Pierre l'aine, is the one who died in 1741. We still need to find sourced for the alternate death date of 1709

Gaudet-687 and Gaudet-11 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, parents (see sources). Death date is way off.
