Austin was married to Betty (Thornhill) and lived in Elk Grove Wisconsin. He was a Lt. in the US Navy during WW2 and a Capt the Korean War. Betty was a WAV in the Korean War time frame.

US Naval Registry record: 90748 Gauger Austin H, LTJG, D-VG, date of precedence 1-01-44, year of birth 12, pay entry base 8-9-41 (august 19 1941 likely enlistement date?)

But there is a US WWII draft card Serial number 3511 order number 3000-A Austin Horace Jesse Gauger, Dec 4, 1914, with Father Mr. W A Gauger. Employer's Name: None (just received Discharge from U.S.N.R. (sic). Signed and stamped on the backside September 29th, 1941

US Naval Reserve Register January 1, 1943 lists 98748, Guager, Austin H; Classification D-VG; Rank: Ens (Ensign); Date of precedence 11-14-42; Date of birth 12-14 (Dec 1914); Pay Service as of Jan 1 1943: 1 month 18 days.

US Navy and Marine Corps registries for 1963 V1 Officers of the U.S> NAval Reserve, lists 098748, Gauger, Austin H, CDR, designator 1105, Date of Rank: 06, 01, 63; Years of birth: 14; Pay Entry Base Date (enlistment date?) 08, 09, 41 The US Department of Veterans Affairs BIRLS lists his "enlistment Date 1" as 15 Sept 1950. This is his 2nd Enlistment date, since he did serve in WW2. The US Department of Veterans Affairs may not have his real 1st enlistment date, as many enlistment records were lost in the St Louis Fire.

From WikiPedia (Https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Brush) "On 24 September 1945 she left the Far East for the United States. She arrived at Seattle, Washington, 15 October 1945 and operated along the west coast until early 1946 when she departed for Guam." This would seem to disagree with the US NAV Muster Rolls, which have the USS Brush departing Pearl Harbor on Oct 9th.
