Elizabeth was born about 1839. She was the daughter of Charles Gaukrodger and Mary Unknown. She passed away in 1882.

In February 1865, Moonlight married Elizabeth Gaukrodger.
They built a hotel, store and stables in the Maruia Valley, before moving with their children, Totty and Jack, to Hampden where they bought the Commercial Hotel, around which the village of Murchison grew.
On 13 May, 1882, Moonlight’s beloved wife, Elizabeth, died of typhoid fever.
Elizabeth Moonlight was born in 1838 in Halifax, England the daughter of Charles Gaukrodger and his wife Mary. She was the youngest of three children and had two brothers - William and John. In 1843 the family left for New Zealand and settled in Foxhill, Tasman. She married George Fairweather Moonlight on 28th February 1865 in Wakefield, Tasman. They had a daughter Elizabeth (known as Tottie), followed by a son John. Elizabeth died on 13th May 1882 in Nelson of Typhoid.
