Biography

James was born in 1802 in Scotland. He emigrated, with his parents, John Gauld and Barbara Sheron, and other family members in 1832, settling in Dearborn, Michigan.[1]

Records in Scotland suggest that he had been married and had 3 children christened in Mortlach, Scotland. Children of James and Mary:

Elizabeth and Mary turn up in records in Michigan. What happened to his wife Mary and son Alexander is unknown.

From 1840 thru 1870, James is listed in the censuses for Dearborn, Michigan[5]

1840. Household for James Gauld: 1 male age 20-30 (his brother John), 1 male age 30-40 (himself), 1 female 10-15 (daughter Mary), 1 female 15-20 (daughter Elizabeth) and 1 female age 50-60 (his mother, Barbara).
1850: Listed as James Gale (looks like Gall in image), 48 , b Scotland, living with Isabella Lansimore, 18, born Michigan. Next household his brother John.
1860: Listed as James Gall, 58, b Scotland, living with Isabella Laurainer, 28, born Michigan. Next household his brother John.
1870: James Gauld, 68, b Scotland, farmer with Isabelle Soinor [Lorinor], 37, b Michigan, keeping house. The next household is his brother John, 56, also a farmer living alone.

Between 1840 and 1850, his mother passed away, daughter Mary married Robert Campbell and his daughter Elizabeth married James Gardner.

James passed away in 1876.[6]
