Dempsey Gaulden was born in Sumter County, South Carolina in about 1767. He may have migrated with his brother William or sister Martha (Patsy) to Mississippi about five years after the revolutionary war.[1]As a young man Dempsey raced horses in New Orleans.

This information is furnished by John Sidney Gaulden.” This information refers to James Gaulding not Dempsey Gaulden of York, SC, – his brother. Laura Gaulding and Bill Gaulding of Kansas had the two brothers mixed-up.

Paternal relationship is confirmed through Y700 DNA testing. Anonymous Gaulding and Earle Gaulden match on 604 out 607 Markers thereby confirming their direct paternal lines back to their MRCA John Mathew Gaulding. SNP/Haplogroup is R-FTC46937.
