Research Notes

Several family histories have William Gaulding, born in the 1740's who married Mary Geers, as the son of John Mathew Gaulding, Jr. John Mathew Gauldings son William was born in the 1720's, according to The Gaulden, Gauldin, Gaulding, Family History -- A Seven Hundred Year Study, Volume One, p.29, Dr. Charles H. Gaulden, Self Published, April, 1999. Dr. Gaulden does not mention the line of William Gaulding who marries Mary Geers.

Catherine L. Gaulding's Descendants of John Gaulding states that the William who married Mary Geers is the son of John Gaulding, Jr. Catherine Gauldings Descendants of John Gaulding. She lists Bill Goulding's work and Ancestry Trees for her sources on William's son John Gaulding. She lists William's wife as Martha Gaulding, daughter of Jesse Gaulding.

Bill Gaulding of Kansas in his Decendants of John Gaulding has not addressed the 20 year jump in the birth dates for John Mathews children. He has Alexander Gaulding, 1726 then jumps to William Gaulding b. 1745. 1839 as a death date?

William Geers Gaulding is the William who migrated with other siblings to New Orleans and surroundings. The two census records listed are for Williams Geers Gaulden, with son, Wade Hampton Gaulden next door.
