Biography

US Black Heritage Project
Charlie Gaulding is a part of US Black heritage.

Charlie was born in 1880 in Mississippi. He was the son of Coleman Gaulding (1853–Deceased) and Francis French (1859–Deceased), who were possibly born enslaved.

The 1880 Census[1] shows him at age 3 months in the home of his parents in Senatobia, Tate County, Mississippi.

The 1900 Census[2] shows him at age 20 in the home of his parents in Earlsboro Township, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma Territory. His occupation is "at school."

He married Luella Reed. Their children:

  1. Fannie Mae (Gaulding) Talton (1915-1965)
  2. Lurena W. (Gaulding) Douglas (1917-2013)
  3. Russell Gaulding (1921-1951)
  4. Eulos Gaulding (1924-1990)

His WWI Draft Registration Card[3] on 12 Sep 1918, gives his exact birth date, and lists Luella Gaulding as his nearest relative. It describes him as short and stout, with dark eyes and black hair.

The 1920 Census[4] shows him at age 39 with his wife and two children in Earlsboro Township, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma.

The 1930 Census[5] shows him at age 50 with his wife and four children in Earlsboro Township, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma.

The 1940 Census[6] shows him at age 60 with his wife and two children in Earlsboro Township, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma.

He died in 1970,[7] and is buried at the Earlsboro Cemetery in Earlsboro, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma.[8]
