Judith Gauntt (sometimes spelled Gaunt) was born of Quaker parentage near Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio, January 18, 1829, and moved with her parents while quite young to Randolph County, Indiana, where her father soon after died and three years later her mother passed away, leaving her doubly-orphaned at the tender age of nine years. She thereafter made her home with Nathan Godwin near Fairview, Ind. until September 5, 1847, when she was joined in marriage to William G. Sutton, which union was blessed with nine children. Deceased united with the M.E. Church at Mt. Tabor near the present city of Dunkirk soon after her marriage and remained a member to the date of her death. She became a member of Charity Lodge No. 18, Daughters of Rebekah, soon after the organization of the lodge at Dunkirk. She dearly loved and prized the order, but, owing to her many afflictions (she having been an invalid for a number of years), she was unable to attend the lodge or her church with regularity. She died at her late residence on West Converse St. at 1:15 P.M. aged 64 years, 2 months and 23 days, leaving a husband, three sons, one daughter, numerous grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn her loss. Having lived a Christian life, so also was her death a triumph of a living faith in Jesus Christ, her Lord. Loving all, all loved her and her memory shall remain green and fresh in the hearts of all who knew her, who may look forward to a reunion at the right hand of God. Buried in IOOF Cemetery at Dunkirk, Indiana. Grandmother's Motto: To enter to worship God; to leave to Serve God
