Biography

William was born in Alabama about 1851 to Stephen Gavin and Anne Hollingsworth. In 1860, the family was living in Holmes County, Florida.[1]

By 1870, the oldest brother, Charles Lanier Gavin, was head of household and had his three younger brothers , including William, with him. They lived next door to their father and his step-mother, Adeline, and their four daughters.[2]
