William Hood Gaw and Isabella Applegarth were my great grand parents. William Hood was born in Aryshire, educated in Glasgow. He came to New Zealand on the Wild Deer in 1871 and farmed in the Clutha area for about three years and then joined NZ Rail as a clerk and finished up as Traffic Superintendent in Christchurch. He and Isabella are buried in Purewa cemetery, Auckland
