Biography

Ebenezer, was born on August 15, 1696 in Dedham, Massachusetts; the son of Nathaniel and Lydia (Starr) Gay [1] [2] [3]

He graduated from Harvard in 1714 and served as Minister in Hingham, Massachusetts from his ordination on June 11, 1718 until his death. [4]

He married Jerusha Bradford on 13 November 1719 in Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts. [5]

He died in 1787 in Hingham, Massachusetts at age 91. [6]

Research Notes

His mother is also referred to as Lydia Lusher in some places. They have a child named Lusher. There could possibly be two Nathaniel Gay's that married two different spouses: Lydia Lusher and Lydia Starr both born in 1652?

This is from Anita Gay Tetreault: I have a booklet entitled "Ebenezer Gay Jr's Record of Deaths in his Parish 1795-1814". It was transcribed and published by iRoots.net in 2001; in the same year it was copyrighted by Scott Prentice. The original manuscript is stored at the Kent Memorial Library, Suffield, CT. and what I have is a typed copy of the records. A brief genealogy which follows the original manuscript material gives Ebenezer's date of death as 18 March 1787, ten years later than the date in this profile.

I'm not sure why he used Jr. in his name, but I do know that at his ordination on January 13, 1741, in Suffield, Connecticut, he was called The Reverand Mr. Ebenezer Gay, Junior.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Ebenezer by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Ebenezer:
