Research Notes
This Joshua Gay was NOT the same man as the Joshua Gay who married Mary Ann Byrd. That Joshua Gay lived in Early county, Georgia and was still living after this Joshua Gay had died. Some ancestry.com users linked this Joshua to both spouses, Sallie and Mary. But the children for both men overlap with dates so this does not make sense.[1]

He is not the son of Thomas and Patience Gay, although his father may have been named Thomas. The other Joshua Gay who lived in Carroll County, Georgia in 1830 was the son of Thomas and Patience. He is the one who is said to have married Sallie Brown. His heirs are named in the estate of Robert Sims.
