Biography
When Dr. Coleman Pendleton Gay was born on March 5, 1874,[1] in Alabama, his father, James, was 25 and his mother, Mary, was 18.[2] He married Mary Alice Hearn on April 18, 1897, in Randolph, Alabama.[3] They had nine children in 16 years. He died on April 18, 1947, in Geneva, Alabama,[4] at the age of 73, and was buried there.[5]

Dr. C.P. Gay, was a family medical doctor in Geneva, Alabama at the time of his death in 1947, when the Pea River Bridge collapsed while he was traveling on the bridge. The new bridge was built and named in his honor, Gay Memorial Bridge.
