Biography

William Gaylard was baptized May 11, 1582 at Pitminster[1] (some indexes say May 10),[2] the son of John Gaylord and Jane Wallin.

Research Notes

This William Gaylard should not be confused with his cousin William Gaylard, son of Christopher Gaylard, baptized June 20, 1582 at Pitminster.

He should also not be confused with the Deacon William Gaylord of Windsor, Connecticut. There is no evidence at this time that they are the same individual, just the coincidence that they were born about the same time, and likely in the same county.

There is a index claiming that William Gaylard was baptized at Pilton May 11, 1582. This index is wrong. There is no reference to William's baptism at Pilton on that date in the original parish record. There is however a reference for William's baptism on that date in Pitminster, as cited on this profile.

Gaylord-1052 and Gaylord-90 appear to represent the same person because: Obvious duplicate - both are the son of John and Jane [W/M]allin

All the information I have that was extracted from documents shows that Hugh Gaylord was one of the three sons of Nicolas Gaylord. Hugh's children were Catherine Gaylord (Gaylord-84) ; Elizabeth Gaylord who married Rev. Tobias Barrett (Gaylord-85); George Gaylord (Gaylord-86), Edmund Gaylord (Gaylord-93); Richard Gaylord-87); and Alice Gaylord married to Richard Treat (Gaylord-59). All the information does not point to a son named William. After checking the changes to this profile, I see that it was imported on 21 Feb., 2011. I believe it was an Ancestry family tree, which can be very inconsistent in verifiable facts/documents.

Made several mistakes in creating the two William Gaylords, grandsons of Nicolas Gaylord (Gaylord-95). However it has not been proven that they were Deacon William Gaylord of Windsor CT (Gaylord-8) I have corrected the parentage of this William Gaylord

But this william gaylord was created as the son of Hugh Gaylord back in 2013. If that was a real person, then this profile should be for him.

Never mind, I see that the bio for Hugh does name a son William...

In reviewing the history of this profile, I think he has been confused with another William Gaylord. Based on the info that was used to create this profile, this William never left England, and was the son of Hugh Gaylord.

William Gaylord of Connecticut already has a profile here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Gaylord-8

Looks like there may have been a bad merge, but this profile should be restored to its original identity.
