Shortly after noon the 18-month old boy was struck by a work train and instantly killed. His home was located very near the tracks, and the lad had crawled away unnoticed and found his way to the tracks, where he was crushed under the wheels of the engine. The train was moving slowly but the boy was not seen by the crew until he was under the wheels and his little body had been almost cut in half. The baby was the third and youngest child of the family. The mother and father were almost prostrated with grief.
