CLOVIS, N.M. - Charles "Bo Jack" Gear, 85, formerly of Amarillo, Texas, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dean Turvaville officiating and military honors by Cannon Air Force Base Honor Guard. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home.
Mr. Gear was born April 20, 1923, in Caddo, Okla., to Jess James and Edna Matilda Turner Gear. He passed away Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at Bee Hive Homes in Clovis. In 1929, he moved to Amarillo, where he attended school until he joined the service at the age of 16 and was in the 19th Bomber Group as a tail gunner. He served in World War II in the East Indies and Papua New Guinea. He married Mary Selman on Nov. 11, 1946, at First Baptist Church in Clovis. He worked for 35 years for Santa Fe Railway, from which he retired as supervisor of operation yard master. After his retirement, he moved to Logan, where he was an avid bass tournament fisherman. He moved back to Clovis in August 2007. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Santa Fe Bowling League, Clovis Bass Club and the American Legion, and he attended the Men's Bible Class and was a member of Logan Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joe Gear.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary Gear; a son, Danny Gear and wife Becky of Clovis; a daughter, Connie Snyder and husband Richard of Grenville; a sister, Emily Mansfield of Austin, Texas; a brother, Fred Gear of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Michael Gear of Amarillo and Kristi Banister of Clovis; and three great-granddaughters, Kaci Leatherwood of Portales, Jessica Tate of Dallas and Tiffany Tate of Plano, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633; or Vista Care Hospice, 2708 N. Prince St., Clovis, NM 88101.
