George William Gear was born on 23 August 1930 to Lester Gear and Clara Nay in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.[1] He was also known as "Bill."[2]
Bill married Katherine Perry on 20 May 1954 in Denver, Colorado. They had one son.[2]
Bill was a newsman and news director at KKTV in Colorado Springs, Colorado.[2]
Bill died on 6 July 1960 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was diagnosed with chicken pox on Friday, 1 July and died only five days later. He was buried on 8 July at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs.[2][3][4][5]

Local Television Newsman Dies of Chicken Pox
George William (Bill) Gear, well known KKTV newsman, died early Wednesday in a local hospital following a short illness.
Mr. Gear reportedly was stricken with chicken pox Friday and died at approximately 4.30 am. today. Mr. Gear, who resided at 1442 Howard Ave., was news director of KKTV at the time of death and also worked in the station's film department. Formerly employed at KRDO, he had been active in local affairs.
Mr. Gear was a former director of the Colorado Springs USO and had worked extensively in that organization. He was also a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce.
He had been a Colorado Springs resident since 1953 and had been employed at KKTV since 1957. He was born August 23, 1903, in Steamboat Springs.
Funeral services have been set for 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Law Funeral Home drawing room with the Rev. Ben F. Lehmberg officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
