According to the 1900 US Census for Essex County, New Jersey^[2], Charles' parents are Henry b. Feb 1854 and Mary Gearl b. Aug 1852 both born in England. In 1900 they were married for 27 years. Together they had 11 children, 7 living.

Children on the 1900 Census are Charles b. Oct 1887, Mary b. Jan 1894, Frankie (daughter) b. Mar 1895 (all born in New Jersey) and Martin George who was Henry's nephew b. Jul 1882 in England

They immigrated to the US in 1885 so Henry and Mary were in their 30's so they may have older children that didn't immigrate with them.

By 1910, Charles was living in the household of his brother-in-law and sister, Ralph and Emma Lee, in East Orange Ward 2, Essex, New Jersey.^[3]
