Nathaniel Gary I immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).
Nathaniel Gary (Gery) was baptized 14 Feb 1633 as son of Arthur at Little Hadham, Hertsfordshire, England (mother's name was not listed although she was listed on the baptismal record of his older brother William).[1] He was included in father's will of 1664.
His mother was Frances Warman, only known wife of Arthur Gary.[2][3]
The family immigrated to America in 1638 and settled in Roxbury, Massachusetts where he was listed as a freeman on 14 March 1639.[4]
His father Arthur Gary wrote his will on 18 Nov 1664 and left his estate to be equally divided among his three sons, William, Samuel and Nathaniel, after his wife Frances' decease. [5]
He was admonished by the church at Roxbury on 13d: 12m: 1652. [February 13, 1653][6]
He married Anne Douglas at Roxbury, Massachusetts on 14 Oct 1658. [7][8] Anne Douglas born c1637, likely in England, was the daughter of Deacon William and Anne (Mattle) Douglas, and came with her parents to Roxbury, Massachusetts Bay Colony about 1639/40. [2]
Nathaniel died of smallpox on 28 Jan 1678. [7][2] He died intestate and on 29 Apr 1679, 'relict' widow Anne was granted power of administration of his estate and was to provide an inventory of his goods and bond for her administration. [2]
On 9 Apr 1684, administration was granted to William Gary and John Chandler, as widow Anne Gary had remarried. A new inventory was taken and the estate was valued at L 103. [2]
Widow Anne Gary married second Thomas Bishop of Roxbury on 7 Jun 1683. [7][2][8]
