Biography

CHITTENDEN — Lena May (Gee) Rufiange, 91, died March 6, 2002, at Roncalli Health Care in Rutland. She was born on October 17, 1910, in Brandon, the daughter of Walter Allen (Allie) and Clara (Sterling) Gee.

She worked at the Brandon Inn to put herself through school and graduated from Brandon High School in 1927.

During WWII she worked for Dutton Lumber Co. as a sawyer on the large gang saw to replace one of the men who joined the service.

Mrs. Rufiange and her husband, John, were house parents at the former Brandon Training School for a time; she later took over the gift room and John worked as a meat cutter there. Lena enjoyed playing cards, fishing, hunting and knitting. In later years she also enjoyed reading historical novels and poetry and was proud of her library of over 800 books, as well as the many books she donated to the Brandon Library.

She is survived by her two daughters, Frances Wheeler of Chittenden and Elizabeth Jones of Proctor; two half sisters, Helen Gee Germond Vernon of Eustis, Fla., and Ruth Gee Clower of Umatilla, Fla. She leaves seven grandchildren, Michelle Thompson, Kathryn Bernier, Jess C. Taylor, John S. Jones, Bryon E. Jones, Clarena Renfrow, Jana DellVenerie; 13 great-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Rufiange, in 1973; a sister, Alice Gee Harbour of Leesburg, Fla., in Nov. 2001; a half brother, Albert Gee of Whiting, Vt.; and a half sister, Katherine Gee Belden Jones.

There will be no calling hours. Cremation will take place with a committal service to be held at a later date in Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon.

The Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford is handling arrangements.* [1]
