Nancy Gee was 21 years old when she married Miles Collier in Brunswick County, Virginia on October 30, 1797.[1]
The wills of William Gee (written 1796) and his wife Tabitha (written 1817) both name a daughter Nancy - Nancy Gee in 1796, Nancy Ferguson in 1817.[2]
Research Notes
Death Date: Before 1804 is for the Nancy Gee, married Bowers, who is named in the will of Neavil Gee (will probated 12 July 1804 in Lunenburg County). Assuming that is the date/place that his will was probated, Nancy's 1804 death date should be either before or after 1804, depending on whether or not she was named in the will. If after, the will should also show she was Nancy Collier.[3]
Location: William Gee was a vestryman in Cumberland Parish until 1768, when parish records show that a replacement was chosen for "William Gee, Gent., who has removed to Brunswick".[4]
The following information was posted to the profile of Jones Gee (son of Neavil)[3] (Neavil and William are believed to be brothers)[5]
Not enough information to determine whether Lunenburg County or Lunenburg Parish was intended. Lunenburg County was not formed until 1746 (from Brunswick County).[6] Lunenburg Parish was formed in 1732 "from North-Farnham, in Richmond Co", and served Richmond County "to aft 1785".[7]
The location is significant since Miles Collier's family was of Brunswick County.
However, additional research concluded that Lunenburg County was meant. From Nevil's profile (excerpt):
Lunenburg Parish was created in 1732 and served Richmond County to after 1785.[8] . . . In 1732, Brunswick County "gained from Isle of Wight and Surry", and Lunenburg County was formed from Brunswick County in 1746.[9] . . . Richmond County (served by Lunenburg Parish) and Lunenburg County are not close. It is likely that he [Nevil] did not move, but that the area of Surry County where he was born became Lunenburg County by 1746.
But later research indicates that Neavil's daughter Nancy was not the Nancy who married Miles Collier.
Nancy Gees
Many Nancy Gees in Lunenburg and Brunswick Counties at the time. This Nancy Gee was, I believe, incorrectly attached as a daughter of Neavil & Catherine (Lucas) Gee. ~ Noland-165 15:47, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
Nancy Gee who married Miles Collier was 21 when she married Miles in 1797 (so, born 1776).[1]
Nancy Gee who was Neavil's daughter was "born 1755, Lunenburg, Virginia, USA; died 1804".[10] Nevil's will, written June 19, 1804 & probated July 12, 1804, mentions a daughter "Nancy Bowers".[11]
Fletcher's The Gee family[4] includes quite a few Nancy Gees:
Nancy Gee, named in 1796 will of William Gee as Nancy Gee; Nancy Ferguson named in Tabitha Gee's will of 1817 (William's wife)[4]
Nancy Gee, named in 1804 will of Neavil Gee as Nancy Bowers[11]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Nancy by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Nancy:
The Gee book has a William Gee with a 1796 will that names a daughter Nancy Gee (& his wife Tabitha's 1817 will names daughter Nancy Ferguson). Both William and Tabitha's wills were probated in Brunswick County, Virginia.
I think William and Tabitha are likely candidates to be this Nancy's parents & that the Nancy Ferguson mentioned in Tabitha's will is their daughter.
IF the book was in error about Tabitha's will naming Nancy Ferguson as daughter - if she were Tabitha's granddaughter - then William & Tabitha were this Nancy's parents.

In his will written June 19, 1804 & probated July 12, 1804, Neavil Gee mentions: daughter Nancy Bowers, 2 negroes; "to my dau. Nancy's dau. Patsy Jefferson"; son Jesse Gee, property in his possession since he has lived in Kentucky and $1,000; son Jones Gee; daughter Amey Andrews; daughter-in-law Catherine Gee and her four "
Neavil's DAR record says he died before 12 July 1804, Lunenburg County, Virginia, so maybe his will was proved that date in Lunenburg County? (and daughter Nancy was either named or not, meaning 1804 is either a before or after death date)
