Biography

Jessie Geggie was born around 1816 to Robert Geggie and Agnes Sleigh. There are varying spellings of the name Geggie over the years some variants include, Geggy, Gegie, Gaggy, Gagie. The most common spelling of the name is Geggie however.

Jessie married an Andrew Logan although I have been unable to find a record of their marriage.

Jessie and Andrew went on to have 9 children together:

  1. George Logan b. 1834
  2. Agnes Logan b. 1837
  3. Robert Logan b. 1839
  4. Daniel Logan b. 1841
  5. Elizabeth Logan b. 1844
  6. Thomas Logan b. 1846
  7. Alison F Logan b. 1848
  8. William Logan b. 1851
  9. Ellen Logan b. 1854

In the 1841 Census Jessie (25) is living with her husband Andrew (25), her sister Isabella Geggie and 3 of their children. Jessie is likely to have been pregnant with Daniel at the time of this census. The family are living in Earlston.[1]

By the 1851 Census the family have moved to Hoselawbank, Linton, Roxburghshire. Jessie is said to be aged 27 while Andrew is 38 in this census record. They are residing with 7 the eldest 7 of their children. Again it is possible that Jessie was pregnant this time with William at the time the census was held.[2]

By 1861 the family had moved again this time into England and were living at the Hamlet of West Warks Common, Part of Carham in Northumberland. Jessie and Andrew both 49 are living with Daniel, Elizabeth, Alison, William and Ellen.[3]

In 1871 the family have returned to Scotland are now living in Kelso at Middle Softlaw Farm. Jessie and Andrew are now said to be 58 years old and living with 2 of their children, Daniel and Elizabeth.[4]

Geggie-265 and Geggie-86 appear to represent the same person because: First proposed match her fathers surname changes depending on records presumably due to illiteracy from Geggy to Geggie
