Because your John (Johannes in German) Gehring was buried in a Catholic cemetery I'm guessing he probably originally from Germany and NOT from the villages of Rüdlingen-Buchberg, Canton Schaffhausen, Switzerland. There IS a Gehring line from Indiana that started in Switzerland but they were mostly Apostolic Christians a Mennonite like group.
