He was born Jan. 4, 1929, on a farm in McPherson County, South Dakota, to Fred J. and Eve Gehring. He moved to Chiloquin in 1938 and to Klamath Falls in 1942. Lou attended school in Chiloquin before graduating from Klamath Union High School in Klamath Falls in 1946. He also attended Oregon Institute of Technology prior to joining the Navy. He served as an electrician during the Korean War. He graduated from OIT upon returning from the Navy. He married Barbara Foltz in 1952 and they had three children. On Oct. 6, 1979, he married Cathy Myers, and her two sons joined the family. Lou was proud of his family. He enjoyed many family get-togethers and holidays. He worked as a leadman electrician for the Weyerhaeuser Company until retiring in 1990. Some of his happiest moments were training his apprentices. After his retirement he took some wonderful vacations with Cathy. They went to South Dakota, Texas, and Branson, Mo., and took a Caribbean cruise. Lou was a dedicated San Francisco 49ers fan, sports enthusiast and an avid hunter. He was a past member and councilman of Hope Lutheran Church, NRA, Woodworkers International Association of Machinist & Aerospace Workers, American Legion and Elks Lodge. Lou was proud of his German heritage, naval service and his apprentices. He was a strong man who lived his life the way he talked. He was so loved by his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Cathy; daughters, Patsy Depew and Susan Blanchard (Larry); sister, Ruby Schubert, daughter-in-law, Carol Gehring; step-sons, Harvey Myers and David Myers (Katrlna); grandchildren, Richard Depew (Maria), Dan Depew, Carolyn Quails, Kylan Gehring (Savannah), Bryant Gehring, Cassie Davis (Jeremiah), Christopher Myers, Cameron Myers, Chase Myers, Sierra Myers, and Trevor Myers; great-grandchildren, Stephani Banes (Kevin), Jonathan Quails, Albert Depew, Michael Depew, Trenton Bennett Depew, and Jared Depew; great-great-grandchild, Majcayla Banes, numerous nieces and nephews, and very special friend, Bob Childers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Eva Gehring; son, Fred Gehring; sister, Bernice Foster; brother, Oscar Gehring, and brothers-in-law, Randy Foster and Tom Schubert
