They were both born in Prussia (Germany), as were their parents; their seven children, all b. Michigan, except for the eldest one: Joseph, 19, b. Germany, works the farm; John, 16, works the farm; William, 14, in school; Mary, 12, in school; Peter, 10, in school; Jacob, 8, in school; and Lewis, 3.
