Carrie was born in 1883. Carrie Geiger ... She passed away in 1953. [1] Carrie was my grandmother, she died when I was about 6 so I didn't get to know her very well. She lived in O'Brien, FL on the west coast and we lived in Jacksonville on the east coast so we didn't get to see her very often. I remember that she use to sew and would make dresses, etc for my sister and I. Most of the time the were made from flour sacks. In those days flour was sold in sacks and the sacks were made from cotton material in different pints, patterns and colors. A lot of times the dresses were made alike. Carrie was married twice, my grandfather David Franklin Coleman died shortly after my mother was born. At that time they had 4 living children all girls. My grandmother moved to Jacksonville to find a job. In those days women did not usually work, they stayed home to cook, clean and take care of the children. One day she got a call from her bother-in-law, her sister had died and left him with children to raise. He said to her.." I have children that need a mother and you have children that need a father, marry me and move back to O'Brien, his name was Will Fletcher. She accepted his proposal and she and the children moved back to O'Brien. This story was told to me by my first cousin, Carolyn Howell Roberts. Sharon LaFond Ruby
