Johannes Geist was born 26 August 1801 in Walter, Volga, Russia.
1811 census records list he was step-son to Johann Adam Weber, who was married to Elisabeta Gies before 1789 and they had four children (1789-1806) before her death in 1811. Johann Adam Weber remarried to Catharina Heidt Geist. Catharina was first married to Johann Heinrich Geist (at least one child born 1796 before Johann Heinrich's death in 1805). Adam and Catharina had Jacob Weber born in 1815. Johann Adam Weber died in 1825 and Catharina Heidt Geist Weber died sometime before 1834.
After both of his stepparents died, Johannes was adopted by Johannes Giesick. He was listed in 1834 census records as the adopted son of Johannes Giesick (b. abt. 1782 in Walter) from Household #188.
Johannes married Katharina Dietz before 1821 and they had seven sons.
Johannes died 26 September 1856 in Walter, Volga, Russia. He was buried on 29 Sep 1856 in Walter. His birth date is based off of his death date recorded in Walter church records.
CEN: 1811 Walter Census, number 64, Johannes age 10 in 1811, the stepson of Adam Weber. More information needed on this as his mother could then be Elisabeta Gies Weber.
Walter Researchers theory Fyler/Vil:
N: We know that Johann Adam Weber's wife died before 1811. We know that Johann Heinrich Geist died in 1805 and would have left a widow with children. What if Johann Heinrich Geist's widow married Johann Adam Weber after his wife died? And Johannes Geist was his son? Then this whole mess would make total sense!
M: I think you are on to something here.
Johann Heinrich Geist b. 1773 son of Johann Georg Gottlieb Geist
Married Katharina Hiede/Heidt/Heit/Von Der Heit/Heide (pg,8 Reconstructed First Settlers List for Hussenbach) b. 1777 daughter of Peter Hiede and Maria Catharina nee unknown.
Johann Heinrich Geist dies in 1805
Katharina Hiede then marries Johann Adam Weber sometime after his first wife dies sometime after 1806 and before 1811. Johannes Geist was born in 1801 and shows up in the 1811 census.
Johann Adam Weber last son with Elisabeth Gies was born in 1806.
If Johann Adam Weber then married Katharina Hiede before 1811 it would make sense that Johannes Geist shows up in household 64 in the 1811 census.
Johann Adam had a son Johann Jacob Weber born 11 Dec 1814 (source Weber-Pleve chart) he would be the son of Katharina Heide.
Weber-Pleve chart shows the 2nd wife of Johann Adam Weber as "?".
No church records to prove our theory.
If we had the 1816 Walter census the second wife's name and possibly maiden name might prove our theory.

After looking at more DNA matches a hypothesis: his father was Carl Martin Geist and mother was Anna Maria "Margaretha" Bretthauer, daughter of Kilian Bretthauer.
Anna Maria Geist Linker's descendants are DNA matches that point to Carl Martin Geist and first wife. Her half-sibling Johannes Geist born to Mueller does not have DNA matches to me.
None of this matches to what the stepfather Johann Adam Weber/wife Gies records state.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Johannes by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Johannes:
