Millicent was the eldest child of John Gell of Hopton and Elizabeth Willoughby. She was baptised on 10 October 1611 in Kedleston, Derbyshire.[1]
Her marriage to Richard Radcliffe appears to have been a love match: in late 1635, William Radclyff in Manchester wrote to John Gell: "seems that his son has taken a great liking to one of Gell's daughters and importuned him to solicite his suit - if Gell considers it a fair match, hopes he will agree to further treaty - his son has always been dutiful and obedient - has no annuities to leave to younger children and will stake all his lands on his son."[2]
