Biography

A Gell pedigree on the Wirksworth Web Site states that he was the son of John and Agnes Gell of Hopton; husband of Elizabeth; and father of Anthony Gell and Mary Gell of Middleton by Wirksworth. His birth date is not known.

Elizabeth wife of Thomas Gell was buried at Wirksworth on 26 January 1639/40.^[1]

Thomas Gell was buried at Wirksworth on 2 March 1644/45.^[2]

Research Note

The Gell pedigree gives his year of death as 1627, but this may be a conflation with Thomas Gell of Hopton. Both had sons Anthony, whose births also appear to have be conflated. Thomas appears to have been still living when his wife Elizabeth died in 1639. The death date of 1640 previously shown on this profile appears to relate, on the evidence of his administration, to Thomas Gell son of Thomas Gell of Hopton.
