Sarah Gent was born in Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, England in 1835. She was baptised at St Mary's Church, Sutton in Ashfield on the 21st June 1835, the daughter of John Gent and Rebecca (Bramley) Gent.[1]
On the 1841 census, Sarah (aged 6) lived in a Cottage near Porter's Buildings, Forest Side, Sutton in Ashfield with her parents John & Rebecca Gent and six siblings.[2]
In 1851, Sarah (15) still lived in the Cottage near Eastfield Side (or Forest Side) with her parents and her four siblings.[3]
The 1861 census shows Sarah, aged 24 and a dressmaker, living with her brother-in-law and sister, John and Eliza Hallam, at Eastfield Side. Also in the house was her mother Rebecca.[4]
She married Herbert Parsons at St Mary's Church, Sutton in Ashfield on the 14th July 1862.[5] Herbert was a 25 year old bachelor and labourer. His father was Reuben Parsons, publican. Sarah was a 26 year old spinster and dressmaker, the daughter of John Gent, labourer. Witnesses to the marriage were Thomas Gent and Ellen Buxton.[6]
On the 1871 census, Herbert and Sarah were living at 171 Forest Side, Sutton in Ashfield, where Herbert was a carter. Also in the household were their children: Gordon (8) Samuel (6) Rebecca Ellen (3) and Reuben.(1mo)[7]
Sarah died in October 1877, aged 41 years[8]. She was buried at St Mary's Church, Sutton in Ashfield on the 31st October 1877, with her abode at death given as Forest Side.[9]
