On the 1841 census, Thomas (aged 10) lived with his parents John and Rebecca Gent and his six siblings in a Cottage near Porter's Buildings, Forest Side, Sutton in Ashfield.[2]
In 1851, Thomas (20 years) still lived with his parents and four siblings at the Cottage near Eastfield Side (or Forest Side) Sutton in Ashfield. Thomas was employed as a framework knitter.[1]
Thomas Gent married Hannah Turner in Mansfield Registration District in 1857[3]
The 1861 census shows Thomas and Hannah Gent living at New Street, Sutton in Ashfield, where Thomas was a stocking framework knitter. They had two children, Sarah Ann Gent, aged 3, and Eliza Gent. (4mo) Also in the household was visitor Ann Turner, aged 23.[4]
Thomas died in January 1870, aged 38[5]. He was buried at St Mary's church, Sutton in Ashfield (as Thomas Ghent) on the 25th January 1870, when his abode at death was Station Street.[6]
