Michael was born in 1874, the son of Henry and Marie Katherine Gentemon. He married Elizabeth and their family lived in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada.

He served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) during the First World War.[2]

He died in 1916[3] and was buried in the Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver, British Columbia.[4] According to his service record, he died from pneumonia in the Vancouver General Hospital after breaking his leg.
