Biography

Jane George was born 22 May 1806 in Laurens County, South Carolina. ^[1] No documentary evidence has been found for her parents, but circumstantial evidence indicates that they were Isaac and Martha George.

She married Moses G. Anderson between 1825 and 1829 in Rabun County, Georgia, based on the fact that they had a child under five in 1830. ^[2]

In 1832 Moses received 160 acres in the Cherokee Land Lottery. His lot was #233 in the 12th District of the 2nd Section. All the lottery land was designated Cherokee County, which was subsequently subdivided. Moses lot was in newly-formed Gilmer County in 1838. ^[3]

However, the family moved to Cherokee County, where Moses, Jane. and five children were found by the 1840 Census. ^[4]

They have not been found in the 1850 census, but by 1860 Jane and Moses were in Brown County, Texas, where they would live out their lives. ^{[5] [6]}

Jane died 24 April 1879 "at home on Salt Creek, Brown County, Texas." ^[1]
