From http://familysearch.org/v1/LifeSketch The story comes from his grandson, Loyd George, Emanuel was being discharge from the Civil War and had 9 children at home. The family heard that he was being discharge and stood by the river bank watching him on the other side waiting to be ferried across. He became so impatient to be with his wife and children, he gave his belongings to a friend, dove into the river and sawm to where they waited. I believe the river would be the Mississippi River.
In the mid 1800's, Emeral made the long trip from Douglas to Cheyanne with a wagon team to pick up his son, Fred, wife, mary Ellen and children from the train. The journey from Cheyenne to LaPrete took thirteen days. The children kept inquiring of their grandfather wher his place was. His reply always was the same --- *Over the next hill*, story told by Blanche Carothers.
Martha, a daughter of Emanuel George, also came west to Wyoming and married John Hadiman at Fort Fetterman. Mrs. Morton recalls they cooked for stage passengers and travelers until they moved to Manderson, Wyoming.
Emanuel left Wyoming and traveling east to visit his children in Wisconsin. Three of his sons had married girls by the name Copsey. Mrs. Copsey, who did not like the tense ways of "Mann" George, remarked she, "didn't" care for her girls marrying those George- boys! According to family legend, Emanuel replied, "Your cares will be great, for I have a son for every one of your girls!" To add to that, two Copsey cousins married the other two George boys! Emanuel died in Wisconsin in October, 1900. He is buried by his first wife, Barbara Barby, Meanwhile Mary left Douglas Whyoming and lived with her daughter, Mary at Topeka, Kansas. She died there in 1923. This information came from Mrs. Fred Hagerman and Mrs. Sam Saron Feild.
