Marriage

Following his emigration from Ireland to New Zealand on the Columbus 1865, Laurence was married in Onehunga to Margaret Isabella Lavery McCutcheon in 1867. The wedding took place at Our Lady of the Assumption with Rev James Paul officiating. The couple had a Catholic ceremony. Laurence was about 22 years old, and his bride was 17.

Death

Laurence died when he was 70 years old in Hamilton Hospital after a brief illness. Very Rev Dean Darby of Hamilton attended. He was survived by fourteen of his grown children. The funeral was on Tuesday 20 April in Tuakau with Rev. Father O'Hara officiating.

Apart from death, funeral notices and obituaries mentioned in various newspapers, he was mentioned in the Stratford Evening Post as being the father of the esteemed Hibernian Society President, Mr T I Geraghty.

Laurence was buried at Tuakau Cemetery (Tuakau Hill Cemetery). He is remembered as the last name on the Geraghty headstone, with his name spelled Lawrence.

In his will, Laurence gave his grandchildren, by his deceased daughter Margaret, 25 pounds each. Gladys, Edna, William and Gordon were orphans.
