Alfred was born August 3, 1849 and baptized January 3, 1850.[1] He was the son of George Gerhardt and Lucy Lohnes. (See reference note.) He married Catherine Lohnes on March 8, 1873.[2] He passed away at home in Bayport on July 5, 1934[3] and is buried in Bayport Cemetery.[4]

Reference Notes
There is confusion over Alfred's mother. Some believe that she was Lucy Lohnes (the name used in her marriage), daughter of William Lohnes and Sophia Winter. Others believe she was Sophia Louisa Lohnes, daughter of Peter Lohnes and Susanna Elizabeth Winter. It was a case of two Lohnes brothers marrying two Winter sisters. Lucy and Louisa were cousins, and Louisa appears to have used the nickname "Lucy" adding to the confusion. Bob Hegerich makes a convincing case for Alfred's mother (and George's wife) being Louisa. See my comment attached to George's file.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Alfred by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Alfred:
See my comments on George Gerhardt's profile re Alfred's mother which may not have been this Lucinda (Lucy) but her cousin Sophia Louisa (nicknamed Lucy).
