Biography

Elisabeth Schmidt Gerhart was born in 1757 in Franconia, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Johann Peter Gerhart (1717-1766) and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Gerhart (1723-1805).

She was baptized at Indian Creek Reformed Church in Telford, Pennsylvania on April 26, 1757.

She married Jacob Fillman (1750-1831) on September 27, 1776 at Old Goshenhoppen Church in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. (NOTE: this needs a good source, as it was imported from gedcom sourced only by a now-dead link to an ancestry member tree).

She appears to have lived in Montgomery County for her entire life, and died in 1830. She was laid to rest at Old Goshenhoppen Cemetery.

Research Notes

A previous version of this profile created by Gedcom import included many footnotes and sources referencing Ancestry Member Trees, with links that redirect to either an error page or the Ancestry.com homepage. In addition, the gedcom data included notes for both her birth and death dates that multiple versions were found. Her Findagrave memorial is the only thing approaching a primary source I've currently located, as it does include a photo of her tombstone containing dates. However, the engraving is too faint to read much of the text other than the birth and death years in the picture, such that a better image, rubbing, in-person inspection, or another source is needed to corroborate the exact dates. Familysearch has digitized versions of the church books for both Indian Creek and Old Goshenhoppen which should provide good sourcing, but at the time of this writing, they are only made available to the general public via LDS Family History Centers. More research and documentation of sources is needed to verify the details of the events of Elisabeth's life. - Daniel M. Culp, 14 Jul 2023.
