The 1900 census records his birth as August 1873. Every other census records his age as being appropriate for a birth year of 1873 (with the exception of 1910, which puts him at two years older than what would be expected). The first time we see a birth year of 1872 is his death record. If 1872 is correct, it would mean he was born three months later than his sister Mary, which is clearly impossible. I suspect a mistake on the birth year in the death record, which was repeated on his headstone and in his obituary.
