Paul Gering Final Rites Held Monday
SPOKANE - Funeral services for Paul Gering, son of Joseph and Frances Gering, were held in Spokane Monday at the First Assembly of God church. He died June 19 at his home in Spokane.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. at the Menno Mennonite cemetery near Ritzville.
Mr. Gering was born in 1881 at Freeman, S. Dak. In 1890 the family moved to the Willamette valley in Oregon and in 1901 went by covered wagon to Adams county, Washington.
Four years later he was united in marriage to Matilda Steffen, who preceded him in death in 1947. To this union were born seven children. They were: Mrs. Alberta Nickel of Everett, Adam Gering of Spokane, John Gering of Moscow, Ida., Mrs. Laurence King of Sandpoint, Ida., Mrs. Lillian Kison of Ritzville, Aaron Gering of Post Falls, Ida., and Mrs. LaVinna Potts of Spokane. There also are seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Later Mr. Gering married Mrs. Selma Wendlandt, who survives him at the home. Also surviving are two stepsons, Clarence and Clifford Wendlandt of Spokane.
Mr. Gering also is survived by his mother, Mrs. Frances Gering of Odessa; four sisters, Mrs. Lena Schrag of Odessa, Mrs. Anna Nafziger of Colfax, Mrs. Martha Moyer of Sutherlin, Ore., and Mrs. Nellie Hardt of Bremerton, and three brothers, Martin Gering of Monroe, Henry Gering of Odessa and Joe Gering of Odessa.
He spent most of his life farming west of Ritzville. About 11 years ago he retired and moved to Spokane where he made his home. He also spent many years working with the ministry.
